One Miss Elizabeth John Adie, has given oral evidence about how she was gang-raped by a group of men she met through a social networking site, 2GO.

Three suspected criminals, who allegedly specialise in snatching bags from women in Calabar, Cross River State, were on Tuesday hacked with machetes till they were almost dead by residents of the area.

Punch reports that the suspected criminals had successfully snatched a bag containing money from a woman who had just stepped out of First Bank premises along Calabar Road and sped off. But unknown to the suspects, another unidentified lady in a car spotted what happened and gave chase with some other drivers. They intercepted the Volkswagen car at Goldie/Atu junction where an angry mob later took over.

The Massachusetts woman accused of beating and strangling her pregnant friend to death then cutting the baby out of her womb and claiming the child as her own was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday.

Julie Corey sobbed as a Worcester Superior Court jury found her guilty of the 2009 murder of 23-year-old Darlene Haynes. The jurors had deliberated for 10 hours over two days. Sentencing has been scheduled for Tuesday. Prosecutors said Haynes was eight months pregnant when Corey attacked her and cut the baby out of her body. They told the jury that Corey had been pregnant, too, but had a miscarriage three months earlier and told her boyfriend and family that Haynes' baby was her own.
