The highly anticipated African Muzik Magazine Awards held at the prestigious Eisemann Center with a galaxy of African stars gracing the city of Dallas. The event had big African Stars like Flavour, Diamond Platnumz, Togar Howard, Serge Bearnaud, Stanley Enow, Wyre, Alaine, Khuli Chana, 2Face and International superstar T-pain dazzle on the stage with electrifying performances.
Other performers of the night include Kukere master Iyanya, Khuli Chana, Kcee and more.
Highlights of the evening included Davido getting the award for Artiste of the Year, Flavour winning the Best Traditional Artist and other big wins.

ASABA (NAN) ― The Delta Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman in Abraka for allegedly killing two of her children.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, said this on Thursday in Asaba in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

She said the suspect had confessed to the police that she gave a liquid substance to the children to drink.

Following the federal Executive Council meeting presided by President Goodluck Jonathan, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, Suleiman Abba, has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police in Nigeria.

On Wednesday 23rd July 2014, MTV Base hosted 2Face Idibia for the launch of his sixth studio album – “The Ascension” at Spice Route, Victoria Island, Lagos.
If you recall, 2Face had a star studded launch on Saturday 19th July at Escape, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event which was in conjunction with Industry Nite saw loads of celebs in attendance. Performers were Timaya, Oritsefemi, Julius Agwu, and Dammy Krane. 2Face also performed two songs from the album with a live band.
Spotted at the event hosted by Stephanie Coker and Olisa Adibua were Ehiz, Wande Coal, Awilo Longomba, Gbenro Ajibade, DJ Spinall, Vina and Dr Sid.

Sylvia Nduka shuts down reports that she is married.
A month ago, Sylvia who won the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant in 2011 sparked reports that she is engaged and married after she posted an image of herself with a diamond ring. She captioned the photo – “#official”.
A rep for Sylvia revealed to BN that she is not engaged. As time went on, more reports surfaced that she married a top Nigerian politician in the presence of friends and family in Houston, Texas.
In an interview with Encomium Weekly, Sylvia touched on the topic, her hair extensions line, her NGO, helping select a new queen and being grateful.

Haiti Battles With Cholera Outbreak, As Death Toll Surpasses 1,000

YAOUNDE (dpa/NAN) ― An outbreak of cholera has killed more than 200 people in northern Cameroon over the past two months, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
More than 1,500 people have been infected with the water-borne bacteria, said Rebecca Djao, a health official for the northern region of the country.

Cholera is an acute intestinal illness that causes severe stomach aches, diarrhea and vomiting. The disease is contracted by drinking water or eating foods contaminated with the cholera bacteria.

John Mikel Obi is reportedly not ready to quit Chelsea yet, because he is due to receive his British passport in October.
The Super Eagles midfielder’s close associate, told AfricanFootball that the 27-year-old could have considered one of the many offers he has gotten from clubs like Juventus and October, but that would jeopardize his chances of getting the document.
“Mikel will be a British citizen by October and that was one of the main considerations why he has opted to stay put at Chelsea at least for the time being,” he reportedly said.

Doctor lost his life after treating more than 100 Ebola virus patient

The Sierra Leonean doctor who treated more than 100 Ebola patients has also died. Dr Sheik Umar Khan (pictured above), who was hailed as a national hero for disregarding his own health and helping sick patients, died yesterday July 29th from the disease after being diagnosed with the virus last week. He contacted the virus despite wearing protective gear when treating patients.

In an interview last month, the 39yr old doctor had expressed fears for his life because of his constant contact with Ebola patients.

Recently it seems Boko Haram has changed their modus operandi and now use female suicide bombers. On Monday,two struck in Kano..Oby Ezekwesili of #bringbackourgirls campaign raised an alarm on twitter that the Chibok girls may be the ones now carrying out suicide bombing..She wrote on twitter

“It feels like eternity since April 14 when our girls lost their freedom. How can we move on like that? This new trend and serial pattern of female suicide bombers surely should particularly worry us.
“Female suicide bombers are again and again becoming the trend and our Chibok girls are still in the enemy’s den. It worries me stiff. Are we thinking? Our Chibok girlsreally need to be rescued from the clutches of evil.

Early this morning July 29th, a man was found dead head down inside a well (pictured above) with his slippers beside the well in a house at Akanyn street, Shibiri Rd, Ilemba in Ojo, Ajangbadi, Lagos.

Many residents of the house had fetched water from the well and even made use of the water before someone discovered there was a corpse inside it. When he was eventually pulled from the well, he was recognized as someone who lived around..a carpenter whose wife recently left him. Some people claimed to have seen him the previous day, very drunk. No one knew how he fell into the well.

A source told GN that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ojo division and Ajangbadi police were contacted and they came to remove the corpse and took it away for fuurther investigation. See the exclusive graphic pic below:

Eight months old Xiao Bao was stabbed 90 times in the face with scissors by his mother for biting her while she was breastfeeding him. The incident that has left many people shocked happened in Xuzhou, in the eastern China Jiangsu province. After the attack, the mother disappeared leaving the infant in a pool of his blood in the yard of their home. Xiao was found by his uncle who rushed him to the hospital. The baby needed more than 100 stitches. The mother, who has since been arrested, is not known to be suffering any kind of mental illness.

At a Joint Ministerial Press briefing of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Health on development concerning the disease yesterday July 28th, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr Jide Idris said out of the 59 people who had contact with the late Patrick Sawyer, 44 were hospital contacts (38 healthcare workers & 6 laboratory staff) and 15 Airport contacts comprising 3 ECOWAS staff-driver, Liaison, and Protocol officers, Nigerian Ambassador to Monrovia, two nursing staff and five Airport passenger handlers. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters identified as Kola Osho, Oyedepo Adesola and Kola Ademola, who allegedly specialize in withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts using dud cheques.

According to Punch, the police said the suspects usually obtained the cheques from people who are experts in stealing cheque books from unsuspecting people, then they will present the cheques to their insider in the bank, who will dubiously verify the account holder and the signature before the money could be paid out. Blessing Okagbare wins Gold in Women's 100m final in Glasgow

Sprinter Blessing Okagbare just won Gold in the Women's 100m for Nigeria in the Commonwealth Games. She won in a time of 10.85 seconds in a new Games record, making her the second fastest woman of all time in World 100 metres. She beat Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown, Kerron Stewart and England’s Asha Phillip who came second, third and fourth respectively.

Pandemonium broke out in the Asipa community as an apprentice bricklayer, identified as Rasheed Sulaiman, was shot dead while testing the potency of a bullet-proof charm given to him by a herbalist.

A resident of Asipa, a community in the Ife North Local Government Area, told PUNCH Metro that Sulaiman, on Saturday called his cousin, Siji, to follow him to a secluded place to test the charm. Sulaiman wore the amulet and gave a gun to his cousin to fire at him. The cousin fired the shot and killed Sulaiman instantly.

Nichole Denby is American by birth but her mom is part Nigerian. She is on the Nigerian track team that's currently performing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Nichole used to run for the USA team, but only recently decided to start running for Nigeria. The 31 year old mother of one explained why she switched.

"It's great honour to compete for an African country where my roots come from, and there is no greater honour for me than to do that. The USA is saturated with athletes, they have so many different people, so they really don’t need anyone else.
