It's Official! Nigeria overtakes South Africa as Africa’s largest economy

Abuja – Nigeria recorded 89.22 per cent growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2013, making it the largest economy in Africa and 26th in the world. The position was previously occupied by South Africa.

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, stated this on Sunday in Abuja at a press conference on “Rebasing/Re-benchmarking of Nigeria’s GDP.’’

“We did not set out to become the biggest economy in Africa. We set out to measure how much the economy has changed. And that is the outcome. Becoming the largest economy on the continent is a positive development, but it is not destination.

“The knowledge derived will help us make better policies to grow the economy and create jobs for young Nigerians,’’ the minister said. According to her, Nigerians have worked hard to make our economy the largest in Africa, and they should be proud of the feat, but it is also a challenge and an opportunity.

She said the results of the rebasing would not make the challenges of poverty and unemployment disappear overnight, adding that it was imperative to policy making.

Indian man sets Guinness record for delivering world's longest academic lecture..

Incredible!!!An Indian man has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the world’s longest academic lecture.

Arvind Mishra gave a lecture on Scientific Computations from March 1 to March 7 speaking non-stop for 139 hours, 42 minutes and 56 seconds.(5 days and 19 hours)

A 36 year old Nigerian Medical Doctor was shot dead by her 63 year old husband on Saturday March 22nd 2014 at their home in West Harris County, Houston, Texas.

Dr Isioma Awele Ebegbodi nee Unokanjo (pictured above), a mother of two and a medical resident physician at Marshfield Clinic in Texas, was shot dead around 3.am on that fateful day after getting into a fight with her husband and the father of her children, Martin Ebegbodi (also pictured above).

After killing his wife, Martin Ebegbodi went to a neighbors house and asked him to call the police. When deputies arrived, Martin Ebegbodi was arrested and charged with the murder of Isioma.
