100 Nigerians stranded in Kenya | Planes suffer engine failures at airport

Two different Kenyan aeroplanes with about 100 Nigerians on board, suffered what pilots and airline officials described as “engine failure” on Sunday.
One of the stranded Nigerian passengers – which includes 30 members of the famous Dantata family, women and children – spoke with our friends at TheCable early on Monday morning, said the first plane was scheduled to leave Nairobi on Sunday at 7:50 am, but the officials shifted the flight to 11:05 am “because of an operational problem” that was to be sorted out “soon”.
Speaking further, she said, “We all boarded at about 12 noon. The aeroplane was already on full speed on the runway and was about to take off when we heard a noise, so the pilot just slowed down.
“People seated by the window side said they saw smoke oozing out, and fire service officials came over. There was an announcement that the plane had a problem and the flight could not proceed. They had to check us into the country. “Kenyan Airways had to pay for our visas. A lot of people were angry, but the airline officials asked us if we would have preferred to die while airborne rather than their admittance that there was a problem.

The fear of insurgents has led to the closure of Adamawa State University at Mubi.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Institution’s Acting Registrar, Malam Hassan Tanko, students were directed to return home, as the university was closed indefinitely for security reasons.
Students were left stranded, as they couldn’t find any form of transportation
One of the students identified as Ali said many commuters were now stranded in the commercial border town due to lack of vehicle.

Adeyemi Dairo, 27, a cobbler living in Ibadan,Oyo state has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

Reports say Dairo, an indigene of Eruwa town in Oyo, forcefully had sex with the victim (names withheld) at his shoe repair shop on August 21, 2014.

The suspect, however, claims the rape allegations are false describing the young girl as his girlfriend.

According to Tribune reports, Dairo asked the victim to help him take a bench to his room. As a mark of respect, the girl did as the cobbler requested but her decision was at a cost as she lost her virginity. Crime Reports learnt that the suspect allegedly followed the girl into the room, tied a cloth across her mouth to prevent her from shouting and tore her underwear before having his way.

He later threatened to organize a gang rape if the victims dares to tell anyone about what happened. The girl was said to have complied until her mother noticed her awkward movement few days after. She confessed to her mother and the case was reported immediately at the Eleyele Police Station.

The Somali prime minister said on Friday that Ahmed Godane, head of the Islamist militant group al Shabaab, was killed in a U.S. strike on Monday, although the group that is waging an insurgency against the government has yet to comment.

U.S. officials had said on Wednesday that they were still checking to see whether Monday's U.S. missile strike on an al Shabaab encampment had killed Godane, who was appointed leader in 2008 after his predecessor was killed in a U.S. attack.
