Two 12-year-old girls are being tried as adults in the attempted murder of another 12-year-old girl after stabbing her 19 times to please a mythological creature they learned about online.
The two girls are charged with first-degree attempted homicide and faces up to 60 years in prison if found guilty and convicted in the savage attack, according to prosecutors.
According to a criminal complaint, one of the two girls told a detective they were trying to become “proxies” of a mythological demon-like character called Slender Man, which they learned about on creepypasta.wikia.com, a website about horror stories and legends.
Daily News reports:
The slaughter of their friend, whom they baited after a sleepover, had been planned since at least December, one girl told a detective. They said they invited the girl over Friday night and, after failing to kill her that night, lured her to a park in the morning where they played a game of hide-and-go-seek.Police said the game ended with them grabbing the girl, holding her down and stabbing her 19 times in the arms, legs and torso. The girls then planned to run away to the demon’s forest mansion in the Nicolet NationalForest after the slaying, the complaint said.
“I recognize their young ages, but it’s still unbelievable,” Court Commissioner Thomas Pieper said during one of the girls’ initial court appearances Monday. One girl told a detective that she sees Slender Man in her dreams. She said he watches her and can read her mind and teleport. On the wikia website, Slender Man appears as a wiry, suited, spider-like man. He’s described as preying on children while residing in woods and forests that “generally tend to be suburban.”Police, in their first press conference after seeing the website, described the girls as having a twisted affinity for “death and horror.”During the stabbing attack, one girl told the other to “go ballistic, go crazy,” according to the complaint. The victim began to scream that she hated them and started stumbling away, one of the girls told police.about 9:50 a.m.
Doctors told police that one stab wound missed a major artery near her heart by a millimeter.
The two girls were arrested several hours later by a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Deputy. The knife believed to have been used has also been recovered.
In their first court appearance Monday, the girls appeared shackled and in jail jumpsuits.
